Return to the pool

We have been working tirelessly for the last 5 weeks with the leisure centre to be in a position to return to the pool mitigating as much risk as we possibly can and we are finally in a position to give you a return date and some initial details of the procedures put in place to make sure your return is as safe as possible.
Whilst we have put in place social distancing measures and procedures we don’t expect to get everything 100% correct straight away and procedures will change as necessary. This may mean changes every time you come to train but it is in the best interest of everyone involved so please provide feedback and be patient.

Steps implemented :- (Brief description to give an idea further in-depth detail will follow)

There is a queue system marked out in line with social distancing - you won’t be able to just enter the leisure centre, you will need to queue until instructed to enter maintaining social distancing and the markings on the floor. There is a one way system in place.

There will be no changing room facilities swimmers should arrive in their costume with suitable over clothes and will leave in the wet costume at the end of the session.

Swimming lessons will be taking place prior to club swimming. Until the pool is clear we won’t go through the pool doors. Once the pool area is clear swimmers will enter the pool via the spectator area. You will be allocated a spot on pool side where you will remove your over garments and wait there for coach instructions (Further details will be following and some video walk throughs). No standing with friends social distancing will need to be adhered to at all times.

You will need your water bottle out at your allocated spot clearly marked with your name. Minimal kit will be allowed (kit list will follow). You will be given a large plastic bag in which to put your clothes and bag which will remain in the spot allocated.

Your coach will give instructions, when instructed you will enter the water and commence training, whilst in the water there will be NO overtaking you will need to slow down if you find you are catching up to the swimmer in front until a coach can rearrange the order.

Toilets will be available (1 at a time) but we encourage all swimmers to have used the toilet before arriving at the pool in order to keep this to a minimum.

When your training slot is complete you will exit at your spot put you overclothes over your wet costume and leave via the back entrance where all Development and Junior performance will need to be collected by an adult. Only performance squad will be allowed to walk round to the car park alone. Social distancing being maintained at all times.

The next squad won’t get through the pool doors until poolside is clear of the previous squad so the need for speed will be required.

Some other things to note that are different:

1. We will be operating a paper and cash free club - all forms have been converted to electronic, all fee’s will need to be paid by BAC’s. No cheques or Cash will be accepted.

2. A return to training risk awareness declaration must be completed before you can return - swimmers, volunteers and coaches.

3. A health screen declaration will need to be completed before every session you are attending. There will be no entry to the session if this is not completed. We will be asking you to agree to a track and trace system for the club and Arnold Leisure Centre - i.e you will need to alert the club if you (swimmers/coaches/parents/helpers) become symptomatic. We will then inform all those also present at the same session. Anyone suspecting they have Covid-19 symptoms must not attend training until they have had a negative test or completed isolation period following a positive test.

4. A kit list will be provided and we recommend no additional kit to be brought to keep pool side as free as possible. Please keep bags as small as possible.

5. No kit can be used from the centre.

6. All kit and drink bottles must be clearly named.

7. All goggles and hats should be on before session for swimmers who need help - Coaches will not be able to help any swimmer with these. Please practice with your child so they can do this independently.

8. Only parents of children 7 years and younger can stay on site (as per the leisure centre rules). Chairs will be placed with the swimmers belongings on poolside or you can assist in helping the coaches or covering the Covid Liaison/register taker role for the session. All parents of children aged 8 years and over must remain within a 15 minute distance from the centre and be contactable in case of an emergency.

9. There will need to be a Covid Liaison volunteer for every session (1 per squad) on poolside more details of what this entails will follow. Please let us know if you would be able to volunteer for this. Additionally we need parents to volunteer as pool side helpers to assist the coaches, particularly for the Development and Junior Performance squads

10. Sessions initially will be 50mins all squads

11. Sessions will be allocated and you will only be able to attend your allocated sessions.
There will be:
- 2 sessions to development
- 3 sessions to Junior performance
- 4 sessions to Performance
This doesn’t mean you will be allocated this amount of sessions we will allocate as fairly as possible until things get back to pre-covid.

12. Nottingham City are still working things out so we don’t have a Wednesday session at the moment.

13. All swimmers will need to renew membership before returning more details to follow.

14. We will run the first week back as familiarisation sessions to ensure swimmers can practice the new procedures with minimal time in the water this will be W/C 10-Aug-2020. This will allow us to ensure the risk assessment and procedures work and make any necessary changes. The risk assessment will be a live document that will be updated as and when required to ensure we mitigate as many risks as possible and keep up to date with the government guidelines.

15. Training sessions will commence 17-Aug-2020- ideally swimmer must have completed 1 familiarisation session the week before so they are aware of the procedures.

#OpenOurPools Campaign

Today our Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has announced yet another stage to easing of the lockdown measure he put on the country in order to try and help with the battle against the COVID-19 virus.

However, we have seen from his statement that lots of things are starting to re-open in the near future but with safety restictions in place, however, in the statement, it is said that swimming pools are still under strict guidance to remain closed!

Arnold Swimming Club are keen to get safely back in the pool and get training going again, even if this is a very slow and staggared start, and along with Swim England, we would like the government re-think this decision and give us more hope and guidance that we can get back to our normality in some form soon.

If you want to join the club and get back to training sooner, please follow the link and sign the petition with Swim England to get things moving.
